With all of the changes that have happened with the new Support at Home program set in place, older Australians still have a bit of confusion. One of the most important things to take note of is that, at its core, is older people’s rights.
The Support at Home program wants to reassure older Australians that they never have to pay for clinical care. Do take note that contributions may be needed for everyday support and independent living services.
With the Support at Home program, a single assessment process will be the determinant of which supports you may be eligible for. The consumer contributions amount is different from the old Home Care Package Program. This will be dependent on when a participant enters the system and the types of services needed.
As 1 November was the official start date of Support at Home, participants should have finalised a new service agreement. Services Australia should send a letter that indicates your individual contribution rate. You have up to 90 days to sign the letter once received.
For providers, stronger accountability is required. There will be stricter quality standards and more transparent recording. To learn more about the changes under the new Aged Care Act, visit nationalseniors.com.au.
