Due to the distorted market structure and scale of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, this social program is at risk for unsustainability if left unchecked. It also doesn’t help that costs are on the rise. To help secure the future of this important social program, the Government has announced 4 pillars that include fighting fraud, slowing the rapid increase of costs, creating clearer eligibility requirements, and delivering quality support and services to participants.
Following the release of the Australian 2026-2027 budget, the Government will be introducing the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment, which is “Securing the NDIS for Future Generations.”
New Framework Planning, which was supposed to roll out mid-2026, will be delayed until next year, 1 April 2027. This will give more time to test proposed processes and rules, listen to feedback, and share more info on the transition. The Government is committed to further reforms to provide better care for the disability community.
