Starting 1 July 2026, mandatory registration is required for Supported Independent Living (SIL) disability service providers. All providers that deliver NDIS-funded supports need to register with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. This means SIL and platform providers are going to be subject to high-quality standards as well as independent audits, worker screening checks, reporting requirements, and suitability assessments.
This mandatory registration is included in the proposed changes that come from the recommendations of the NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce, the Disability Royal Commission, and the NDIS Review. The NDIS Commission has also had extensive consultations with the NDIS sector and the disability community.
The NDIS Commission will be making more announcements this year regarding transition arrangements. For more information about the mandatory registration of service providers of Supported Independent Living and platform providers, visit www.ndiscommission.gov.au.
