The Senate Inquiry into the proposed NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 has been extended, giving stakeholders additional time to examine the legislation and provide feedback before the inquiry concludes.

An interim report has been released, outlining recommendations that include developing a clearer implementation roadmap and providing greater clarification on proposed reforms, such as eligibility requirements, automated decision-making and participant safeguards.

The extension follows negotiations that resulted in a number of proposed amendments, including stronger protections around participant supports, greater transparency for automated decision-making and measures intended to limit ministerial powers during the transition period. These amendments have been proposed but are yet to be formally adopted.

The extended consultation period allows the disability sector, participants and providers to continue contributing to discussions on the proposed reforms. As the legislation progresses, providers are encouraged to stay informed about potential changes that could influence NDIS eligibility, funding arrangements and future service delivery.
