Around 43,000 aged care residents across Australia are set to share their feedback as part of this year’s Residents’ Experience Survey.
This annual survey gives residents the chance to describe what it’s like living in aged care, highlighting what’s working well and where improvements are needed.
In 2024, participation is expanding, with at least 20 per cent of residents in each home surveyed. The insights gathered not only hold aged care providers accountable but also guide them in delivering better care. Notably, since the survey began in 2022, nearly 40 per cent of aged care homes in regional areas have reported improved results.
Trained survey teams engage with older Australians from all backgrounds, including those living with dementia, disability, or from culturally diverse communities. Interpreters and other supports are available to help residents take part.
Participation is voluntary and confidential, with no staff present during interviews. Survey results contribute to 33 per cent of a facility’s Star Rating—helping families make informed choices via the Find a Provider tool on MyAgedCare.gov.au.
