Getting feedback from people you provide care services to is a must to ensure that you are doing your job and doing it well. To be able to gauge the quality of the support you are giving, a tool has been developed by the Living with a Disability Research Centre at La Trobe. The OPQ or Observing Practice Quality tool is a free mobile app that is used to assess the quality of support that has been provided by a worker, specifically to a person who has an intellectual disability.

Frontline leaders, quality safeguard teams, community visitors, and auditors are able to measure the quality of support that is being provided by individual workers. This tool is one of the ways to provide feedback, and staff can reflect upon this and use it to improve their practice.

Although the Active Support Measure is the common tool used by researchers, this is quite complex and will require intensive training to be used correctly. Meanwhile, the OPQ tool has an easy-to-use format that is simple and can be utilised even by non-researchers. Learn more about the Observing Practice Quality tool at www.observingstaffsupport.com.au.
