The Australian Government has reshuffled key ministerial roles, introducing new leadership for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). These appointments may influence the direction of disability support and related services, including how foundational supports are delivered.

Health and Aged Care Minister Mark Butler will now also oversee Disability and the NDIS as part of his Cabinet role. In addition, NSW Senator Jenny McAllister has been named the dedicated Minister for the NDIS, though she will serve from the Outer Ministry and not hold a Cabinet position.

Meanwhile, Tanya Plibersek has been appointed Minister for Social Services. However, it remains uncertain whether the Department of Social Services will retain oversight of foundational supports or if these responsibilities will shift to Mark Butler’s expanded portfolio.

These changes highlight the evolving structure of NDIS governance, which may have implications for both providers and participants moving forward.
