The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has announced an extension to the grace period for non-conformant electronic National Residential Medication Chart (eNRMC) vendors, now lasting until 1 December 2025. This extension, which replaces the previously set deadline of 21 October, comes as a welcome development for many aged care providers facing delays from software vendors working toward compliance.

Ageing Australia applauded the decision, with CEO Tom Symondson noting that the grace period will provide vital time for providers using Telstra Health’s MedPoint software to avoid emergency action and the potential disruption caused by non-conforming systems. Symondson added, “The extension is a practical step toward achieving a safe and gradual transition to electronic prescribing, a shift critical for the future of aged care.”

With the overall eNRMC implementation phase now extended to 31 December 2026, the Department of Health will continue to work closely with affected vendors and stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition. Providers are encouraged to assess and manage any clinical risks during this period, but the extended timeline provides necessary clarity and stability.
