The Support at Home program, which rolled out on 1 November 2025, promised transparency for the aged care industry. It also aims to give more independence to older Australians. However, older people have experienced distress and anxiety over the new program as they encountered issues, such as sharp price increases for services.
There was also a long waitlist for the reassessment of those looking to get a higher-level package. Some felt pressured to sign contracts even if they technically have 90 days to submit the determination letter coming from Services Australia. Not all providers have published prices for their services, and participants can’t compare value.
