Since 2020, Plan Managers are only able to provide two types of services according to the NDIA. The first is managing and monitoring a participant’s plan, specifically in financial administration. The second is capacity building and training, which can include enhancing the ability of a participant to direct their own supports as well as building the administration and financial skills of a participant.
According to reports from Q2 2024-2025, only a few of the registered 14,233 plan managers have provided the second service. It’s important for plan managers to diversify their services and start including the second type of service, as this can strengthen the ability of a participant to undertake the tasks that are associated with managing their own supports.
The capacity building for plan and financial management should be able to cover engaging with providers, developing service agreements, managing claims and payments that come from the NDIA, and more.
