The Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism (Criminal and Migration Laws) Bill 2026 has been passed on 20 January. However, Disability Representative Organisations noted that there is no comprehensive protection for people with disabilities in the bill. Vilification and hate speech laws fall short when it comes to people with disability.
The protections for people with disabilities are inconsistent and are not explicitly or reliably covered in legislative frameworks. The Disability Representative Organisations, therefore, call for further reforms to address these gaps.
