Australia has entered a new era of aged care reform with the commencement of the Aged Care Act 2024 and the Support at Home program, marking the most significant transformation of the sector in decades.

One of the biggest changes seen is the Support at Home program, which allows older Australians to stay in their own homes longer, but also gives them their own choice to switch from residential care when it no longer suits them. At the end of the financial year, 83,000 Support at Home places will be delivered by Labour to meet growing demands.

Not only are providers required to register under a new regulatory model, but they are also required to meet the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards. This is to ensure that older persons receive the best quality of care.
