NDIS funding changes taking effect from 1 October will reduce approved budgets for social, economic and community participation supports by 50% and improved daily living supports by 10%. The reductions will apply when a participant’s plan is renewed, reassessed or newly created, rather than changing all existing plans immediately.
The reductions will be calculated from the approved budget, not the amount already spent. For example, an approved participation budget of $20,000 would be reduced to $10,000.
Some supports within the affected categories will be exempt. Eligible participants with high support needs can also request a plan variation if reduced funding would affect their 24-hour disability supports. Participants experiencing significant and ongoing changes in their functional capacity, support needs or circumstances may request a plan variation or reassessment.
The NDIA will gradually transition participants to a new framework planning model from 1 April 2027. The funding reset will not apply to new framework plans, which are intended to provide greater consistency and clarity around individual supports and funding.
