Due to the Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill published in May, the Australian government introduced the supports determination policy, which allows the Minister to reduce funding for a support category at a set percentage.

As of 1st October, the supports determinations have come into effect. Participants will see a reduction of 50% for social, economic, and community participation (SECP), as well as a reduction of 10% for improved daily living (IDL). This will apply to new plans only and not mid-plan. So, if this is a participant’s first NDIS plan, the reductions are already in effect. The same goes for participants who have their plans reassessed or renewed. The NDIA has the power to renew participant’s plans on 1 February 2027.

There are a few exceptions to the supports determinations, a few sub-groups will not be affected by the SECP support category, including supports in employment, high intensity supports, and intensive and complex behaviour supports. As for IDL support category, the sub-groups that are excluded are hearing services, customised and wearable technology, and disability-related health supports.
