There were 63 changes made to the “Securing the NDIS for Future Generations” bill, and this was in response to the feedback from the disability community and advocates. An agreement was made between the Coalition and the Australian Government; 28 were in favour of the bill and 12 against. This will soon be up for review at the House of Representatives where it will be signed off.
Mark Butler, the Minister for Disability and the NDIS says this bill will help put “the scheme back on track”. He believes the NDIS became a target for “shonks and fraudsters.” However, Megan Spindler-Smith, acting CEO of the People with Disability Australia believes the changes in the bill can cause lost opportunities, and even lives, as well as cause harm and injuries to thousands of People with Disability.
