The National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Integrity and Safeguarding) Bill 2025 will become law as it passed Parliament on 1 April 2026. New laws will be delivered and are mainly to protect people with disabilities. At the same time, there are also laws that are set to safeguard the NDIS from fraudsters or anyone responsible for unsafe practices and serious misconduct in the scheme.
Punishments include imprisonment of up to 5 years and fines that can go as high as $15 million for serious conduct breaches. Providers should be extra careful and simply follow NDIS guidelines. One of the measures in the bill include making supports that aren’t registered that require registration a crime. There are also anti-promotion orders that will target businesses wrongfully advertising NDIS supports or tricking NDIS participants into the misuse of their funding.
