The recent Federal Budget has delivered some welcome cost-of-living and healthcare measures, but National Seniors Australia (NSA) says it missed the mark on reducing home care wait times.
NSA applauded initiatives such as increased bulk billing rates, cheaper medicines, energy bill relief, and aged care wage support. However, they raised concerns over the lack of action on key senior priorities, including no extra funding for home care packages—despite wait times stretching up to 18 months.
NSA also noted disappointment that the budget didn’t address rising private health costs or confirm the continuation of the Age Pension deeming rate freeze.
They continue to advocate for reforms to shorten the home care waitlist, improve affordability, and better support older Australians who want to stay in the workforce or care for family members.
