Last year, aged care occupancy was already nearing full capacity. There was a projected increase of more than 9,000 residents, yet the sector was only able to add 578 new residential aged care places in FY25. To address the ever-growing pressures in the aged care sector, the Federal Government’s response is a $3bn aged care package.
This package is meant to supply the gap to meet the 5,000 additional beds for the yearly target, as well as for higher-need residents and Support at Home changes. The package will include an Aged Care Dementia Support Program and Specialist Dementia Care Units.

The Independent Review of Residential Aged Care Accommodation Pricing calls for a redesign of the financing of aged care recommendations, and the Government responded that it will consult further for broader reforms.
