The Fair Work Commission has announced changes to the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award as part of its review of gender-based undervaluation in priority awards.
The changes include new definitions, revised rules for progression between pay points, a new classification structure and changes to minimum pay rates. Most of these changes will apply from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 October 2027.
An earlier change will affect home care employees performing disability care work. From the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026, these workers will receive an initial increase of up to 15% to their minimum award rate. Any remaining increase will apply from October 2027.
The Fair Work Commission said the rates applying from October 2027 will also incorporate any changes resulting from the 2027 Annual Wage Review.
Providers should review the updated award requirements and prepare for the changes to pay rates and classifications. The Fair Work Ombudsman has published the December 2026 pay guide and updated Pay and Conditions Tool to help employers determine the applicable rates.
