Due to the increased requirements of Support at Home and the new Aged Care Act, an outer-metro council will pull out of aged care services. The Melton City Council cannot deliver home care services due to the increased funding and regulatory requirements of the Support at Home program.
For now, the said Council will continue to deliver services under CHSP, which is set to expire on 30 June 2027. There are well over 800,000 CHSP users who will be transitioning to Support at Home. Currently, the Support at Home Program has close to 400,000 users.
Melton City Council is not alone in opting out of home care services. There are over 100 local councils, most of which are in Victoria, who no longer want to deliver home care services under the Support at Home Program. The proposal for CHSP users to transition to SAH users can expose Local Councils to unrecoverable costs, increased administrative requirements, and cashflow volatility.
