Families and advocacy groups are calling for greater transparency around Support at Home waiting times, saying limited information is making it difficult for older Australians and their carers to plan for essential care. The Families for Aged Care Equity and Support (FACES) collective has urged the Federal Government to publish clearer, more consistent data on assessments, funding queues and wait times.
Many carers report balancing work, family responsibilities and the growing care needs of ageing parents while waiting months for approved support to become available. Advocacy groups say clearer reporting would help families better understand the process and improve confidence in the aged care system.
The Australian Government has acknowledged the growing demand for home care services and says it is expanding Support at Home places to reduce waiting times. The long-term goal is to shorten the average wait for funded support to around three months by mid-2027, while continuing to improve access for older Australians.
